Congratulations with Mike Gerard, our March Yogi of The Month! Here's what Mike has to say about his practice.
I
do hot power yoga simply because it feels great to work every major muscle
group and it combines strength, stretch, balance with cardio--plus I like to
sweat. Over the last two years I experienced almost every running-related
injury trying to lower my marathon PR time and eventually I burned out. My
better half had been encouraging me to try yoga for about a year but I could
not see how turning myself into a pretzel would help me qualify for the Boston
Marathon. Although my shoulders and hamstrings have the elasticity of piano
wire, and my tree pose can look like I'm failing a road-side sobriety test, I
really enjoy the physical challenge of a tough class as much as any long run.
As I gradually get back into running I plan to keep power yoga central to my training
and recommend it to anybody training for a marathon--or anyone who appreciates
hops and barley.
Thanks Mike for sharing your
experience with us. We love the enthusiasm you bring to the mat and are so
happy to have you as a student at Milwaukee Power!
